August 2017 Our 30th Anniversary Trip to the Northwest

Bob planned a three week trip for us to explore the beautiful Northwest.  It is impossible to capture it all with a few pictures, so we decided to highlight some funny things that happened along the way.

Sue ordered the fruit cup for breakfast at Cora's in Victoria and this is what appeared!!

Same morning at Cora's, Bob ordered crepes with hot dogs and cheese!!
Yes, there are hot dogs inside those crepes.

We walked all around Victoria. This is Fisherman's Wharf.

Fisherman's Wharf version of an in-law suite!!

Cute little water taxi in Victoria.

Sue and the water taxi captain.

Spectacular Butchart Gardens were created in an old rock quarry.

Bob couldn't resist the opportunity to ride a horse through Butchart Gardens.
Huge public market in Seattle where the first Starbucks is located.

Fish market in Seattle. This is where they throw whole fish (big ones) when you order.
Seattle gets lots of rain - this store sells upside down umbrellas.

See if you can guess what is on the wall behind Bob. This is the world-famous "Gum Wall". Yes, all of that is chewing gum and the Gum Wall stretches for perhaps 200 yards, on BOTH sides of a narrow alley. Lots of people were taking selfies at the Gum Wall.
At the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle. A "Toe Truck".  Tee-hee!!

At the Chihuly Museum in Seattle. At the entrance we overheard a father lecturing his three boys (ages 5-8??). Realizing that he just might be making a mistake by taking the little guys into the Chihuly exhibit he said "Do you know where you are?  This is a museum MADE OF GLASS!!"

Sea lions basking in the sunshine at Astoria.
You can't hear them in this still picture, but they are barking like crazy.

Famous Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach in Oregon.

Bob among the roots of a big tree along the Oregon coast.

Check out the label --  "Gross Gus's Dinosaur Dung".  Must be an Oregon thing.

Ice cream for a late breakfast (or early lunch) at the Tillamook factory.

Pioneer Square in Portland. These people are lined up to audition for American Idol!! We weren't sure we felt more sorry for the contestants or the judges!

In a canoe on the Deschutes River in Sunriver, OR.
Sue is taking a break from paddling to enjoy the scenery.

Smoke spoiled a lot of beautiful vistas on this trip, but at least we spotted Mt. St.Helens from the plane on the way home.

June Getaway

We have learned to get out of Tucson for the month of June.  This year temperatures climbed to 115 degrees!!  What a better adventure than to go visit the grandkids.

First Sue had the chore of turning 70.  Bob made it much easier by treating her to a vacation at the Enchantment Resort in Sedona.  We hiked, indulged in spa treatments and played golf.

Then we headed East to help the Inadas move into their new home.  While Susie packed boxes, we entertained Gus and Mia.

Moving day.  We took Gus and Mia out for breakfast and then to school.

They returned to their beautiful new house just a few blocks away but with lots more space.

Despite all the rooms, they all huddled together on the sun porch each evening.

We got to see Mia play soccer.

And Gus pitched five scoreless innings to win the town championship and the most valuable player award.

We then went on to Vermont to catch up with the St. Pierre's.  Unfortunately it rained most of the time and we did not get any new pictures.  Had fun being entertained by the girls though and learning all about their favorite games.

We went back to Denver where we had left our car for the next leg of our trip.  First stop, Boulder.

We took Kelan and Beckett to Steamboat for a few days.  We stayed in a condo where we had taken Kit and Bobby to ski.  It all felt very familiar.  Here we are watching ski jumping practice at Howelson Hill.

And we have many pictures of Kit and Bobby doing exactly the same thing.

Back to Boulder to reunite with their parents.  They were happy to get back to their own perches.

We visited all of our old homes in Breckenridge and had a wonderful 4th of July lunch with the Karklins.  How we loved our 12 years in Summit County!!

The Grand Finale was Ken and Teri's wedding in Beaver Creek.  We were honored to be gathered with their families for this happy occasion.  The most beautiful wedding ever.  Congratulations you guys.

Spring visits from family

Reunion of cousins!!  Kate came out to see us and we met our cousin Linda at the Phoenix airport.

Then Susie and Tetsu came later in the Spring.  We visited an amazing State Park with under ground caves and stalactites and stalagmites.

They swam in the Ritz pool.

road in the golf carts,

and had a wonderful time in the desert.

Then Bobby and Katie loaded the girls onto an airplane from Burlington, VT

We visited the Ostrich Farm and fed the lorakeets.

And the goats, too!!

We road in the golf carts and snapped this great picture at hole 16.

They swam in our pool and hung out in a friend's hot tub while Katie and Sue celebrated Mother's day at the Ritz spa.

They loved the desert too.
